ARTIST STATEMENT

I’m an abstract artist drawn to color, texture and playful mark-marking. Working intuitively with acrylic, encaustic, collage and crayons, I build each piece through layers, experimentation and response.

I rarely know where a painting is headed when I begin. Instead, I let curiosity and play guide the process, creating works that are layered, expressive and often a little unexpected – hopefully with a sense of fun and joy running through it.

Originally from Thomasville, Georgia, Laura studied English at Vanderbilt University and has called San Antonio, Texas home for more than 30 years. She spends part of the year in Montana, where she paints surrounded by the incredible beauty and wide-open spaces of the mountains. Her work is held in private and corporate collections across the U.S.
