ABOUT THE ARTIST

Laura is a self-taught photographer and mixed-media artist working with encaustic and acrylic. Her work combines original photography with collage elements, including found papers and other material, to create layered compositions rich in texture and color. She is deeply inspired by the natural world, and her love of color plays an important role in her process. She begins many pieces by painting backgrounds in acrylic or encaustic, building up layers that she then alters through sanding or scraping, repainting and collage. This process creates weathered, timeworn surfaces that hold traces of each stage of their making.

Originally from Thomasville, Georgia, she studied English at Vanderbilt University and has lived in san antonio, Texas for over 30 years. Laura’s work has a contemporary aesthetic and is included in private and corporate collections across the U.S.
